What up What up. First I’d like to welcome ImHalfChinese to the blog. Welcome dude and thanks for taking this ride with us.
So a little about me. I grew up a mellow sports fan till my grandparents introduced me to the Sacramento Kings at the beginning of their glory years, circa the 98-99 season, so big ups to my grandparents for opening the door to this magical world for me. Since then I have been a loyal Kings fan and rep my purple and black with pride.
You all may remember the glory years where the Kings could never get over that hump (legit or not, but I won’t go into it) and remember the players like C-Webb, Divac, and Bibby, but I was proud of all of them. I’m talking Nick Anderson, Corliss Williamson, Doug Christie, Scot Pollard, Hedo, Peja, G. Wallace (before the Bobcats anyone?), hell even was a fan of Brent Price and Jabari Smith when we got him. I even had a Jon Barry jersey (yeah the analyst from ESPN) which I still rock proudly. But one of my all time favorite players was Jason “White Chocolate” Williams. The guy was just magic on the court and I loved him even when he was pulling up 30 feet out for threes.
What really allowed me to get into the Kings though was my original love for trading cards. Before the kings it was all X-Men and other Marvel trading cards and I had tried to dabble in baseball and football, but couldn’t really get into sports cards because of so many players. But once basketball came around I was hooked. My cousin Ryan and I were huge card collectors and to this day I still have my absurd collection in my garage. Really though it was the best feeling going to the card shop with my Uncle, him letting us buy like 5-6 pack, going home, and opening them up and seeing if any King’s players were in them. It was the best feeling in the world, something I’ll cover soon I’m sure.
But with my love for the purple and black, it also meant a hatred for that other team rocking purple in LA. So many years of heartache (Robert Horry game 4 buzzer beater anyone?) caused by them, but I give them props cause they got the best player in the game. Really I have no issue with Kobe, it’s just the purple and yellow on his jersey.
Despite the wonderful 50+ a year win seasons and all the hoping that this was gonna be the year, I know that it’s gonna be a bit before we make the playoffs again. BUT I still stay positive. As they say, “In Petrie We Trust” (although really a full mid-level to Beno?).
Anyway I’m excited about this blog and the chance to share my insights and I hope as the reader you are excited to read too. Recently my other childhood love for baseball has taken a lot of my sports interest due to the Giant’s winning it all, but every year like I said, I’m always excited for some King’s basketball. I like (not love) where the team is at, but know we also have a great cornerstone for the franchise in Tyreke and DeMarcus. Here’s to the future and championship in the states capital and hopefully a SonicsGate doesn’t happen to my team.
Thanks for reading and hope you continue to.
PS Enjoy a mini documentary/highlight reel of “White Chocolate” plus all the other stuff I’ve thrown into this post…woops
